Smoking cigarettes has evolved from the rituals that included smoking a peace pipe as a token of friendship and peace, as well as using dried and smoldering tobacco leaves for religious purposes.
Today smoking cigarettes can be attributed to different reasons – some people start smoking because they are going through a difficult period in their lives, while others do it because of fashion, which is especially popular among teenagers. In fact, the problem of people getting addicted to cigarettes is getting «younger» - it’s not uncommon to see children as young as 9-10 taking to smoking cigarettes. In many cases adults act as role models – smoking adults are likely to conjure up an image in the child’s brain that they need to correspond to.
On the average people who are considered to be regular smokers smoke 5 cigarettes a day
although in some cases the number can reach 20 or even 40 (1-2 packs). To make matters worse, cigarettes are available to practically any person as they can be purchased online with just a credit card number necessary. At the same time, this is the only way some people can afford purchasing the cigarettes they usually smoke at a lower price, which is important if money is an issue.
